It’s About Time – NaNoWriMo Day 14

Day 11: 822 words

Day 12, 13, 14: Meh

I’ll explain–and I’ll use small words, so that you’ll be sure to understand, you warthog-faced buffoon. This is a bit of a long one, but it’s all about how we choose to spend our time. In the course of doing NaNoWriMo, my inevitable boredom kicks in, and I don’t even want to look at the story. It has nothing to do with the story, and everything to do with my fluctuating interests.

The Problem With Romantic Comedy – NaNoWriMo Day 7 & 8

Day 7: 1,403 Words

Day 8: 1,487 Words

Total: 11,150

Got a little closer to the regular pace today. In this episode, what kept me from an episode yesterday, and behind the scenes on the story! I introduce some genuine conflict to the romance angle, and rant about how romantic comedies so often get it wrong!

I Deleted the Sex Scene – NaNoWriMo Day 6

Day 6: 849 new words, 114 net gain

Total: 8,260 words

Yes, I cut the sex scene because it was an obvious tonal mismatch with the voice of the piece. This discussion is about the difference between an obvious cut and self-editing or tweaking your prose or tinkering with the plot.

Constraints on Creativity – NaNoWriMo Day 5

Day 5: 1,761 words

Total: 8,146 words

I got back up over the daily goal and halved my deficit in the benchmark total. I was totally caught off guard by what became the perfect opportunity for a sex scene and I just went with it! It was pretty liberating but kind of uncomfortable at the same time. In tonight’s discussion, I get into arbitrary constraints on your writing and what that means to your creativity. It can be liberating to not constrain yourself, but it can also be a challenge and growth opportunity to write within certain constraints. The important thing is that you decide!

Priorities and When You Get Stuck – NaNoWriMo Day 3

Day 3: 1,618 words

Total: 5,071

I’m just 48 words below the average daily target, but I wanted to at least get to 1,600 words and get to watching those dang election returns! Also, cramming the last day of Apex Legends Season 7, so sue me. Tonight I talk about getting the words done even with other distractions, trusting the creative voice, and what to do when you feel stuck in a writing session.

When Romance Invades – NaNoWriMo Day 2

Day 2: 1,712 Words

Total: 3,453 Words

In today’s update, so far I’m staying on pace over the 1,666 average daily goal. I read for you what amounts to the first chapter of the work, to give you a taste of the voice I couldn’t describe in yesterday’s episode. Then a discussion about writing into the dark and what happens when suddenly a romance breaks out in the middle of your witty heist-type thing. This is all about letting the creative voice play and telling the critical voice to take a hike!

Reviewing The Social Dilemma and Apple’s Dumb Event

I finally watched The Social Dilemma, after talking about it last week, and boy howdy! What a film! It is incredibly well-made and stays absolutely on-topic. It goes into great detail about how Social Media platforms influence not only our thinking but also our behavior. You must watch this as soon as possible.

A gaming media outlet put out a story saying that Dr. Disrespect may be “featured” in Cyberpunk 77. This is not the case! Here’s Esports Talk’s video discussing what Doc actually said, and here’s Doc’s recent tweet.

Finally, what gives with Apple’s recent announcement event? There is so much to break down, it’s impossible to put in the show notes. This is just a discussion of my reaction to certain things within the event. Key takeaway: nothing new!
